There is no doubt that the work of Đuro Seder represents one of the most vital and most stratified steps of contemporary Croatian painting. Through more than six decades of his work he created both in quantity and quality an impressive body of work, of rare gesticulated conviction and strong coloristic divergence. Member of the generation (graduated in 1951) who had undergone all the trials and doubts about the effectiveness of traditional painting medium, overcame the doubts and dilemmas passionately immersing into the frame space and flamingly using the painting tools and materials (brush dynamism, colour energy). In the framework of the GorgonaGrouphe operated along the lines of anti-art, preoccupied with the 'borderline' cases of black and white contrast and voidance of canvas and later he took a bold decision ending this self-imposed artistic post, letting himself to the dictates of visions and premises of elementary iconicity. Establishing the bridge with tradition, especially with the line of expressionism and symbolism (but also with templates of archetypal characteristics), he started painting with an extraordinary sense of freedom and purity, even freshness that comes from unfettered access and experience that goes beyond the limitations of the medium. Exhibition of Đuro Seder represents sensation and event wherever it is held, and the City of Split has the right and obligation to be introduced to his exceptional work holistically.
