Varaždin Quartet was established in 1999. Varaždin is a city of a long string music tradition and the Quartet was founded after its musicians had been playing together in Varaždin Chamber Orchestra. Previously they were members of many estimated Croatian orchestras - Croatian Radio Television Symphony Orchestra, Zagreb City Comedy Theatre Orchestra, Croatia Chamber Orchestra, Zagreb Chamber Orchestra. They also worked as teachers of music. At present they work for the Slovene National Theatre Maribor.
The Quartet is regularly present in the musical life of the City of Varaždin where they hold the concert season. During the last 15 years the Quartet has developed a wide concert repertoire featuring names and works of the most famous classical music composers (Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Haydn, Dvořák, Smetana, Shostakovich, …) as well as national, Varaždin composers (Padovec, Bobić, Igrec, Skender…) as a support to cultural heritage of their local environment. Concert Office Varaždin represents a significant help to their work following and supporting the work of the Quartet ever since the very founding. They have been playing concerts regularly throughout Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and Germany.
Members of the Quartet -Marko Jerbić, first violin, Anđelko Ilčić, second violin, Ana Trnjar, viola and Davor Gluhak, violoncello - have all graduated from the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Quartet and for the contribution to the local community in 2009 they were decorated with the City of Varaždin Plaque.
