Grandiose and farewell, Puccini's opera Turandot stands at the crossroads of many worlds. With this work, Puccini boldly stepped out of the realm of operatic realism, embracing new musical and theatrical challenges while capturing the spirit of the time. His tragic heroines continue to suffer or triumph in increasingly spectacular and exotic settings.
Ninety years separate us from the premiere of Turandot in Milan, and sixty years from its impressive appearances at the Meštrović Gallery during the early days of the Split Summer Festival. Now is the perfect time for Turandot to soar once again in a place where the monumental beauty of the Meštrović Gallery intertwines with conflicting ethical principles that constantly place heads on the chopping block, while an unyielding search for love's fulfillment prevails.
The opera will be performed with Croatian and English subtitles, ensuring a captivating experience for all.
