Grandiose Puccini's farewell opera Turandot in many ways stands at the crossroads of the worlds. It was Puccini leaving the opera verismo for good daringly indulging himself in the new music-scenic challenges, new spirit of his times, insisting however on fatality or victory of his heroines in ever more spectacular and exotic environment.
Turandot was premiered in Milan 90 years ago, and it has been 60 years since its impressive staging in the Meštrović Gallery, at the very beginning of the Split Summer Festival. Timing is perfect for the new launch of Turandot at the place where the monumental beauty of Meštrović Gallery, conflicting ethical principles causing the heads to constantly be on a platter as well as fearless search for the fullness of love have been intertwined.
Conducted by Ivo Lipanović, directed by Ozren Prohić and starring Zvetelina Vassileva in the role of Princess Turandot, Ivan Momirov as the Prince Calaf, Valentina Fijačko Kobić and Antonija Teskera as Liù, a slave girl and Ivica Čikeš and Lucijano Batinić as Timur.
The team of the opera Turandot would like to thank Borovo factory for their contribution in footwear production.
The opera will be performed with English and Croatian subtitles.
