At the mention of the title of the cult comedy Marathon Family, numerous associations arise, and memories flood our minds with images, actors, and quotes from one of the most-watched films in this region. The Topalović family, the funeral home, characters aged 150 years, reading the will, and many similar motifs have found their place in the general cultural consciousness of our time. Perhaps less known is that the film was preceded by a drama written by Kovačević during his third year of dramaturgy studies ('72.). It was soon staged at Ateljeu 212, directed by Ljubomir Draškić, and less than ten years later, Slobodan Šijan directed the legendary film based on it. Everything else is history. Years go by, and the popularity of Marathon Family does not diminish, so this story continuously gains new fans. Excellent dialogues, fantastic characters, and a bizarre plot that mocks death and false morality are characteristics of the story of the "oldest Balkan family."
