Stories from Vukovar

The monodrama "Stories from Vukovar" transforms the theatrical space into a wartime shelter where the actor establishes a complete and selfless connection with the audience. For an hour, the actor becomes a war correspondent, and the audience becomes his fellow citizens whom he tries to alleviate from their concerns by talking about love, life, enemies, war, childhood, and more.

Stories from Vukovar

The foundation for the young actor in creating the play was the short lyrical stories of the legendary war correspondent from Vukovar, Siniša Glavašević. Pere Eranović conceived his "Stories from Vukovar" as a one-hour stay in a Vukovar shelter where an interaction takes place between the war correspondent, his fellow citizens, the actor, and the audience.
Through words, songs, and movement, he brings the stage reality to life and juxtaposes the ideas of humanity and inhumanity. This stage reality, through humorous and tragic moments, grows to the point where the authentic war reports of Siniša Glavašević become an uncomfortable warning of what the weakening of humanity in a person can lead to. Besides reminding older generations of a period of pride that managed to persist amidst so much fear and suffering, this authorial project serves as a reminder to newer generations that losing joy and turning away from our fellow human beings is just as detrimental as forgetting.
