Do You Remember... "Do You Remember Dolly Bell?"

A ballet performance inspired by motifs from Abdulah Sidran's cult novel Do You Remember Dolly Bell and the film of the same name directed by Emir Kusturica will arrive on the big stage on Sunday, May 12th.

Do You Remember... "Do You Remember Dolly Bell?"

The National Theater Sarajevo ballet ensemble will provide an unforgettable experience and introduce you to the world of exceptional artistry and dance virtuosity. Ballet lovers will have the opportunity to enjoy a blend of Balanescu's music, choreography by the renowned artist Staša Zurovac, and exceptional costume designs by Bjanka Adžić-Ursulov and set designs by Josip Lovrenović. According to the choreographer and director, working on the performance is an inspiring story that "is neither ballet nor drama but has the authenticity that has emerged from the ensemble itself and the creative team of the performance."

A WORD FROM THE CHOREOGRAPHER

Sidran's text primarily intrigued me as a profoundly ingrained title in collective memory. Choreography in symbiosis with dance, and even more combined with a literary source, is a task that implies a search to find an adequate language to honor this fantastic work. Moreover, it is a new kind of artistic resurrection that stimulates memory through a unique sublimation of the offered artistic reality. It also seeks to offer new value to the viewer who is unfamiliar with the work, providing an equal opportunity to experience and understand it. Choreography is not just shaping dance movements into music; it is much more than that when creating a theatrical performance. It encompasses music and body, costume and set design, light and dramaturgy—almost everything that constitutes it—because it deals with the non-verbal world of creation. Sidran's world is vibrant, primarily as a literary language full of poetry about man, place, and time. On the other hand, it is rich in visual ambiance and even more in empathy with the emotion of an ordinary person affected by the world of that story.
