La Sylphide

One of the world’s oldest surviving romantic "white" ballets represents a continuation of fostering classical repertoire on the stage of the CNT Split. This fairytale story set in the Scottish highlands, where the main character James, shortly to be married, falls in love with ethereal forest-spirit creature and breaks off his engagements, surrendering himself to the world of sylphs and witches, will be staged in Split by a Danish artist Karina Elver.

La Sylphide

The Danish ballet master August Bournonville, founder of the Danish ballet school, choreographed La Sylphide for the Royal Danish Ballet in 1836. The Bournonville version has been danced by the world ballet troupes ever since with music by H. Løvenskiold. It is distinguished by a special "Danish" style of dance, different from the Russian or French, and the special treatment of jumps and figures.

Ballet La Sylphide was premiered in Croatia in Rijeka in 2000, and then in Zagreb in 2005 choreographed by Norman Dixon. This is the first Split performance.
