ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: 

Dalibor Cikojević has managed to combine two artistic disciplines such as music and literature in his public activities, which is very rare for any artist. In addition to regular appearances as a concert pianist in Croatia and abroad, he has gained a reputation as a writer, publishing three novels that make a noteworthy musical trilogy. 
Pianist Dalibor Cikojević has managed, in recent years, to attract the attention of the public especially with his musical performances of the Croatian composer Boris Papandopulo, whose piano work represented the focus of his activities. His recital with anthological compositions by Boris Papandopulo had a premiere at Dubrovnik Summer Festival. He also won the Croatian Music Society award “Milka Trnina” for his special artistic achievement, while a CD on which he performs Papandopulo’s Third Piano Concerto, together with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, won the music award “Porin” for best album of classical music.
Dalibor Cikojević started his music education in Split when he was only seven, where he graduated from high school for music in the class of Mrs Jelka Bakašun. After that, he went to Vienna where he studied at the Musikhochschule in the class of Alexander Jenner who mentored him to his Master’s. His further artistic maturation was enriched with practising with Oleg Maisenberg and studying Instrumental Pedagogy in the class of Carmen Graf Adnet.

From an early age he is present on the music scene, performing at various national and international festivals such as Zagreb Summer, Split Summer, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Musical Evenings in St. Donat, Osor Musical Evenings, George Enescu Festival, Raba Musikfestival and Vienna Festival. Under the baton of Pavle Dešpalj, Nikša Bareza, Peter Burwik, George Schmöhe and Ivo Lipanović he has given impressive performances with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, HRT Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of National Theatre in Split, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and the Wiener Ensemble des 20 Jhr. In the field of chamber music he has performed with the Zagreb Soloists, Sebastian String Quartet, and a number of prominent musicians from Zagreb and Vienna’s musical life. His concert repertoire is of a wide range and streches from baroque to contemporary works of 21st century.

Dalibor Cikojević worked as a music teacher in Austria for many years, among others, at the Universität für Musik in Vienna, and he is currently Full Professor and Dean of the Music Academy in Zagreb.

Dalibor Cikojević is also a writer who has written three novels: The Legacy of the last composer (Ljevak, 2003), Violin(Teovizija, 2006) and Virtuosos, muses and striptease (Leykam International, 2010), the most recent being translated into German and awarded the prize “Steiermärkische Sparkasse” for best foreign novel.
