A Lullaby for Aleksija Rajčić

The main character is a fictional personality, and the young writer found inspiration for the story in the book by Milutin A. Popović from 1898, titled Female Convicts – An Album of the Požarevac Penitentiary Female Ward. The fate of Aleksija Rajčić is a confrontation with unfreedom in every sense, leading her to crime as the only way out and to prison as a paradoxical space of freedom. She is a figure representing all women who have found themselves in a similar position throughout history and today. The play, performed by the National Theatre in Belgrade in collaboration with "Sterijino pozorje"  and the "Novi Sad - European Capital of Culture" Foundation in 2022, premiered on April 30th last year at the "Raša Plaović" stage. In the meantime, it has received numerous awards, including five Awards in June of this year at the 68th Sterijino pozorje Theatre Festival, the most significant theatrical event in Serbia - for the best play, the best contemporary drama text, the best acting performance, original stage music, and stage speech.
