105 Years of "Jedinstvo"

The Jedinstvo Folklore Ensemble proudly invites you to a grand, festive, anniversary music and dance concert at the Croatian National Theatre in Split.

105 Years of "Jedinstvo"

The Jedinstvo Folklore Ensemble Split was founded in 1919 and has been active in Split for nearly 105 years. It tirelessly nurtures generations of young citizens in love and respect for tradition through stage performances, showcasing the cultural heritage and folklore of Split and Croatia. From its beginnings as the Socialist Workers' Choir in 1919 and later names like Sveta Cecilija, Espero, Zora, and Sloboda, it became known as Jedinstvo in January 1937. Today, FA Jedinstvo operates as an independent folklore ensemble in Split.

FA Jedinstvo is among Croatia's most awarded and successful amateur ensembles, with 87 prizes from competitions worldwide. Noteworthy awards include 11 awards and plaques from the City of Split, two awards from Split-Dalmatia County, and a commendation from the Republic of Croatia.

While Jedinstvo has always been a crucial part of Split's cultural scene, 2024 marks a special milestone—the 105th anniversary of Croatia's oldest coastal folklore ensemble. Throughout this jubilee year, the ensemble celebrated with numerous events, exhibitions, TV shows, solo concerts, local and international collaborations, and historic tours, such as a recent tour in China. However, the highlight of the anniversary celebrations will be their full-length gala concert, scheduled almost to the day and at the same venue—the Croatian National Theatre in Split—105 years after their first concert in 1919.

FA Jedinstvo is more than a guardian of Croatian tradition; preserving and performing cultural heritage also fosters new generations of exemplary, proud, and open-hearted citizens. With a diverse program, Jedinstvo takes its audience across Croatia, featuring cultural treasures from the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This concert will be no exception. Alongside classic choreographies like Vrličko kolo by Branko Šegović and Bunjevačko momačko kolo by Zvonimir Ljevaković, the Split audience will also enjoy some new performances by this renowned ensemble.

In a two-hour program featuring over 150 performers of all generations from the ensemble's dance troupe, orchestra, and youth groups, Jedinstvo will transform the stage of Split’s cultural temple into a celebration of Croatian heritage.

This promises to be one of Split’s major cultural events of the year, one not to be missed. Join us to celebrate this cultural-artistic showcase, which will support the preservation and appreciation of Croatia's traditional culture and historical heritage, which Jedinstvo has cherished for 105 years.

As Jedinstvo concludes: "Let’s continue together in our new century. Five down, 95 to go until 200!"
