Uroš Lajovic, a celebrated Slovenian conductor, composer, and music educator, first conducted an orchestra in 1965. He began his career as an assistant conductor (1971-1978) and later served as the permanent conductor of the Slovenian Philharmonic (1978-1991). From 1974 to 1976, he was the chief conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of RTV Ljubljana, and from 1979 to 1981, he held the same position conducting the Symphonists of RTZ. He founded the chamber ensemble Slovenicum in 1988, and served as its artistic director until 2001. From 2001 to 2006, he was the chief conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic. Throughout his career, he has conducted numerous premieres of works by contemporary composers, and in addition to the standard concert and symphonic repertoire, he has conducted performances of around 90 operas. He has performed with prestigious orchestras and has been a guest conductor across Europe, Russia, Turkey, the United States, China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Colombia.
