Happy New Year with Waltzes, Polkas, Marches, and Mazurkas by the HNK Split Orchestra

The traditional New Year's concert of the Croatian National Theatre Orchestra in Split, which for many classical music lovers in Split has represented the last event of the calendar year for years, will take place on December 28, 29, and 30, starting at 8 PM at HNK Split. Under the direction of maestro Ivan Hut, alongside the HNK Split Orchestra, the soloists will be soprano Ana Malovan and Olesya Tokarenko, mezzo-soprano Bjanka Ivas, tenor Lovre Gujinović, and baritone Marko Lasić.

The first part of the concert is entirely devoted to the operetta Die Fledermaus, "the king of waltzes," by Johann Strauss II. The program opens with the overture to "the funniest of all operas." This is followed by arias and duets from this globally popular and beloved "operetta of operettas," which quickly became synonymous with this musical-theatrical genre shortly after its premiere in Vienna in 1874. The cheerful and festive musical spirit of the waltz and polka themes from Die Fledermaus continues in the second part of the concert with popular works, dance music from Vienna in the late 19th century - marches, mazurkas, polkas, and waltzes by Johann Strauss II, Eduard Strauss, Johann Strauss I, Vatroslav Lisinski, and Hans Christian Lumbye.
