International Guest Principal Dancer Victor Caixeta set to appear in "Scheherezade"

International guest ballet star Victor Caixeta, former soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre and principal dancer of the Dutch National Ballet, will perform the role of the Golden Slave in the upcoming ballet production Class Concert / Scheherazade, choreographed by Denis Matvienko.

The final ballet premiere of this season, Class Concert / Scheherazade, choreographed by renowned ballet artist and the new Ballet Director Denis Matvienko, is coming to the stage soon. As a reinforcement to the Split Ballet ensemble, international ballet star, Brazilian dancer Victor Caixeta, a former soloist of one of Russia’s most renowned ballet companies, has joined the production.

Ballet lovers in Split will have the opportunity to see Caixeta on stage for the first time as the Golden Slave, the iconic character in Scheherazade who propelled Vaslav Nijinsky to fame in 1910.

Born in Uberlândia, Brazil, Victor Caixeta began dancing at an early age. His talent and passion were evident, and after winning several dance competitions in his home country, he competed in major ballet competitions worldwide.

This includes the prestigious YAGP in New York and Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland, where, at the age of 15, despite not winning, he received an impressive 18 scholarships.

He continued his professional ballet education at the Staatliche Ballettschule Berlin, graduating in 2017. That same year, he joined the Mariinsky Theatre Ballet in St. Petersburg, where he was promoted to soloist in 2019.

Caixeta left the prestigious Russian company in March 2022 due to the tragic situation between Russia and Ukraine. After making the difficult decision to leave his life in Russia and move to the Netherlands, he joined the Dutch National Ballet as a principal soloist.

Recently, he made his debut as Jean de Brienne in Raymonda and as the Prince in Sleeping Beauty, where he danced alongside Russian star Olga Smirnova. Following his premiere performance in Swan Lake, he was promoted to principal dancer. Since 2024, he has been performing as an international guest soloist.

His repertoire is remarkably diverse, making him a highly versatile dancer and one of the most outstanding performers of his generation with a promising future ahead.

At the invitation of director Denis Matvienko, Caixeta will dance in Split for the first time in the ballet diptych Class Concert / Scheherazade, which will have its premiere on March 27, with additional performances on March 28, 29, 31, and April 1, 2025.
