Directed by Borut Šeparović, Büchner's Woyzeck will have its premiere performance by Drama HNK Split on Tuesday, April 15, starting at 8:30 PM.

In our adaptation, Woyzeck—Büchner's tragic protagonist—symbolizes an individual trapped within modern systems of militarization, technological control, and gender-based violence. His tragic fate, as both a soldier and a test subject, strongly resonates in the context of the increasing militarization of the European Union, the reintroduction of mandatory military service, and public recruitment campaigns that turn the body into a resource for geopolitical conflicts such as the war in Ukraine.

As the military industry experiences a resurgence, Woyzeck becomes the face of a nameless army whose lives are reduced to biometric data, statistical figures on weapon efficiency, and subjects of experimental medical treatments and technological innovations—from neural implants to stimulants designed to enhance military performance," said director Borut Šeparović about the upcoming theatrical premiere at the Croatian National Theatre in Split.

Büchner's Woyzeck, directed by Borut Šeparović, will premiere on April 15, 2025, with a reprise performance scheduled for April 16. Donat Zeko will play the title role, with Andrea Mladinić as Marie. Also appearing on stage are Trpimir Jurkić, Elvis Bošnjak, Mijo Jurišić, Stipe Jelaska, and Nikola Nedić.
